Anthropic just opened MCP connectors to free Claude.ai accounts. That means anyone can connect Claude to HTML Pub and start publishing pages with nothing but a conversation. No code, no hosting, no credit card.
Here's the full walkthrough — from zero to a live personal homepage in about two minutes.
What you'll need
- An HTML Pub account (free)
- A Claude.ai account (free)
- About two minutes
Step 1: Create your HTML Pub account
Head to htmlpub.com and click Get Started Free. Sign in with Google or email. The free plan gives you everything you need for this walkthrough.
Step 2: Create your Claude.ai account
Go to claude.ai and sign up. A free account works — MCP connectors are available on all plans now.
Step 3: Add the HTML Pub connector
This is the part that connects Claude to your HTML Pub account:
- In Claude.ai, click your profile icon (bottom-left corner)
- Open Settings
- Go to Connectors
- Click Add custom connector
- Paste this URL:
https://mcp.htmlpub.com/mcp
- Click Add
Claude will redirect you to htmlpub.com to sign in and authorize. Click through, and you're connected.
You should see htmlpub listed under your connectors. That's it for setup — Claude now has tools to publish pages, upload assets, and manage your content.
Step 4: Build your homepage
Start a new conversation and try something like:
Build me a personal homepage based on my LinkedIn profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/your-username
Make it clean, modern, single-page. Include my name, headline, work experience, and a contact section. Publish it to htmlpub.
Claude will read your public LinkedIn info, generate a full HTML page, and publish it. You'll get a live URL back — click it and your homepage is on the web.
Step 5: Add your photo
This is where it gets interesting. There are two paths depending on where your photo lives.
If your photo is already online
Just give Claude the URL:
Add my profile photo to the page. Here's the image: https://example.com/my-photo.jpg
Claude uses import_asset_from_url to pull the image server-side and edit_page to drop it into your HTML. One message, done.
If you have a local file
You can actually upload images directly in the Claude.ai chat — but you need to allowlist the HTML Pub domain first:
- Go to Settings → Capabilities
- Under Additional allowed domains, add
mcp.htmlpub.com - Click Add
Once that's set, you can drop an image right into the conversation and Claude can upload it to your page.
Alternative: use the upload page. If you'd rather not tweak settings, Claude will give you a direct link to your page's upload page (something like htmlpub.com/p/xK9mQ2pLrT/assets). Drag-and-drop your file there, tell Claude "ok, uploaded", and it'll find the file with list_assets and add it to your page.
What a full conversation looks like
Here's a realistic back-and-forth:
You: Build me a homepage from my LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/jsmith — dark theme, minimal.
Claude: generates HTML, publishes it Here's your page: pages.htmlpub.com/p/xK9mQ2pLrT
You: Nice. Add my headshot.
Claude: Upload it here: htmlpub.com/p/xK9mQ2pLrT/assets — then let me know when it's ready.
You: Done.
Claude: finds the upload, inserts it into the hero section Updated! Your photo is on the page.
You: Change the tagline to "Building the future, one line at a time"
Claude: applies a targeted edit Done — refresh to see the change.
The whole thing takes a few minutes. Every change is live instantly.
Quick reference
Once you're connected, here's what you can ask Claude to do:
| What you want | What to say |
|---|---|
| Create a page | "Build me a landing page about X and publish it" |
| Edit text or styles | "Change the heading to..." or "Make the background dark" |
| Add an online image | "Add this image: https://..." |
| Add a local file | Claude gives you the upload link — drag-and-drop, then tell it |
| See all your pages | "List my pages" |
| Delete a page | "Delete the page at {slug}" |
What's happening under the hood
When you add https://mcp.htmlpub.com/mcp in Claude's settings, a standard OAuth flow connects your accounts. Claude registers itself, you authorize, and it gets a token scoped to your HTML Pub account. No API keys to manage, no config files to edit.
From there, Claude has access to tools like create_page, edit_page, import_asset_from_url, and list_assets. It picks the right tool based on what you ask. You just talk to it like a person.
Try it now
The whole setup is free on both sides. Connect Claude to HTML Pub and see what you can build in a single conversation.
